Type Design: A Process - Dalton Maag

  • Design company based in London
  • Showcasing a series of images to the clients to explain which one best represents the brand.
  • Looking at fonts that have shared features(e.g. BBC chose fonts that were all created by British designers)
  • BBC requested the font be changed from helvetica for reasons of spacing, weights and heights of the letters.
  • Start off a typeface with a neutral weight, then later apply a variation, including Bold and Light fonts. After creating a regular alphabet, additional symbols and numbers will then be created.
  • The type is then coded to work over a range of platforms.
  • When designing letters take the weight out of the horizontals.
