After researching some potential ways to start off the initial ideas stage of the brief, I began by identifying different approaches that could be taken during the starting phases. The first idea was to start by looking at existing designs used in pubs, beer festivals or on alcohol bottles. This would allow the opportunity to further understand ways in which the design can be communicated to the target audience.
The first idea was to look at the designs used on beer taps and create versions of my own. The intention of this, would be to communicate to the audience that the subject of the event will be to do with beer from first glance. From this idea, it felt necessary to also create logo designs for the CAMRA event.
In terms of the colour scheme that was used in the initial idea stage, blue and white would be used in reference to the recognisable colours of Leeds. Other versions use blue, red and white to affiliate with the colours used in the Union Jack. By adding these colours, it would be showing the audience the history behind the organisation aswell as the event.
After sharing several initial ideas and mock ups with peers, it was evident that the project needed a different approach all together. Other ideas that were suggested include, a beer festival survival guide, a beer menu layout or to experiment using photography. Therefore at this stage in the process, it was essential to look at other ways the background information could be incorporated into the design element of the project.
In response to the feedback, I think that having changed the approach to the project, there was more depth in the ideas that were suggested. The idea that I found most appealing, was the photography approach. This was because it would be possible to combine this with the other suggestion to make a survival guide. This also gave the opportunity to try the use of photography as the key element in the design process.
