Design Practice - Studio Brief 1 - Rationale

For the Penguin adult non-fiction novel book cover cmpetition, I was tasked with creating a book cover for Truman Capote’s In cold Blood. From the initial idea stage of the project I knew that my intention was to recreate the classic in a more up-to-date, modernised way. This way the book could be recieved well by audiences of different ages.

For example, the design approaches taken during the project show that the final book cover can cater to older audiences, who may have already read the book and would recognise the style. It also is designed to intrigue audiences who may not have read the book, as it plays of the themes of mystery and crime through the use of designs that are open to interpretation by the audience.
