Studio Brief 2 - Collaborative Practice Development inspiration

To begin developing the ideas for the project, it was decided that looking back at the original advertising used by Bumble would be one way to further gather inspiration for the project. As the app itself had been thoroughly explored at this stage, we decided that finding further information about Bumble from other sources would be a better option. From this we discovered the Bumble Success Stories on the Beehive website. The Beehive is a website that offers viewers stories and articles relating to relationships, whether it be seeking partners or business contacts. For our project, we decided to focus primarily on the 'friendship' and 'career' sections of the website. This would provide an insight of how Bumble target their audience through another platform, such as this.

The Beehive

Much like the Instagram layout for Bumble, The Beehive has taken a spacious and clean approach to the design of the website. Articles are separated by white background and the use of colour is quite limited, using mostly the colours associated with the app. This layout made the website more navigable and straight forward, much like the app when users are first introduced. It is also clear that the same use of italic font is reused within the website, and is present on most pages. As seen on the homepage of The Beehive, the colour used can attract the eye of the viewer to the Bumble app download option, in the top right hand corner.
Further down the homepage, the use of colour is more noticeable, as the peach colour that is present in the app is reinforced here. The mix of illustrations, photography and article choice, gives the user a series of options to choose from. This is what makes the site more diverse and suited for all kinds of users, whether they want to look at articles relating to feminism or if they would like to read more about the events held by Bumble.
At the bottom of the homepage, the success stories are displayed to the user. This could potentially entice them to download the app and see what it has to offer, that the website doesn't already. By showing the love relationships of users beside the friendship stories, the website can show all of its potential in one area. This section also includes the links to other social media platforms that are run by Bumble, and gives the user a glimpse of the content that can be found on these platforms.

The Beehive - Friendship
This section of the website uses current news stories and world wide issues, as the main focus of informing its viewers. Through the use of photography at the top of each article, it can easily sum up the meaning behind the story. This helps to avoid overcomplicating the space in which the content is placed and makes the viewing easy to the viewer.

Throughout the friendship section, there are frequent uses of photography such as this. By displaying the people who have made friendships through Bumble in this way, the viewer can imagine themselves in the same situation, which could in turn increase the likeliness of the viewer downloading the app.

This use of photography may also work well, if incorporated into our own designs during development.

The Beehive - Career

In a similar way to the friendship section of the website, the Career section shows viewers stories from professionals and other people that have been successful in their life. Rather than taking an approach that encourages the viewers to directly seek out business partners, The Beehive instead focuses on inspiring readers through uploading articles relating to the workplace or success. This gives the site more depth and allows for its viewers to find more of the stories they wish to read about, that may inspire them to be successful in their own career.

In the same way that the Friendship section showcased women meeting through Bumble, the Career section displays inspiring articles relating to women's experience in their careers, stories about inspiring women or ways to meet other professionals through Bumble.
