Design Principles - Studio Brief 1 - Initial Idias

To begin ideas for the colour booklet, gathering sources for ways to approach the task was necessary. This meant the use of photography to first create a colour swatch for the booklet, in relation to Josef Albers theories of colour. By using a colour swatch it is possible to identify and separate certain colours within an image that may not be recognised upon first sight. After gathering images, it would be possible to choose which one to use in the colour booklet.

Many of the images taken were of streets in Leeds City centre and Leeds University campus.
As shown here, by identifying a section of the photographs it was possible to then gather individual colours from the selected area. This worked by separating different shades of a colour which would have otherwise been unrecognisable when shown next to each other within the image.

Here is the final experiment using a colour swatch. This was chosen for the booklet as it demonstrates how the darker areas of the photograph can be divided into several different shades.
