OUGD603 - Brief 2 RSA: Alone Together

This brief explores the effects that loneliness has on individuals and their physical or mental health. The problem is that there are several different demographics affected by loneliness and it is seen as a subjective feeling that is different for all individuals. Some of the common signs of loneliness would include disconnectedness from family, friends, communities and social or health services.

To explore the issue of loneliness further it would be beneficial to look at:

  • different experiences, demographics and causes of loneliness.
  • design aimed at tackling the issue and how certain design approaches promote positivity.
  • the effects of social media on mental health.
  • different target audiences experiences with loneliness.
Primary research methods:
  • create an anonymous survey that asks participants to share their experiences, ways that they feel their health could be improved and what they feel causes loneliness.
  • an ethics form will also be required.
  • ask different age groups how they feel and why they think that is.
